SQE1 basics
The Solicitors Qualifying Examination Part 1 is the assessment all aspiring solicitors in England and Wales must pass to qualify. It tests Functioning Legal Knowledge across two papers (FLK1 and FLK2), each 180 single-best-answer questions under timed conditions.
FLK1 covers Business Law & Practice, Dispute Resolution, Contract, Tort, Legal System, Constitutional / Administrative, and EU Law. FLK2 covers Property Practice, Wills and Administration of Estates, Solicitors Accounts, Land Law, Trusts, Criminal Law, and Criminal Practice. Both share cross-cutting ethics and professional conduct.
The SRA does not publish a fixed pass mark. Each sitting is standardised against a panel — historical data places it in the 55–60% range. Our internal analytics target a sustained 70%+ practice accuracy so you have headroom on the day.
Three attempts within six years from your first sitting. After that, you would need to re-register.
SQE1 runs twice a year, in January and July. The next sittings are January 2027 (FLK1 11–15 January, FLK2 18–22 January) and July 2027 (FLK1 12–16 July, FLK2 19–23 July). Booking closes around five to seven weeks before each sitting; the January 2027 booking window had not been announced as of July 2026, so confirm dates at sqe.sra.org.uk.
Yes — already done. The SRA’s updated assessment specification takes effect on 1 September 2026 and first applies to the January 2027 SQE1 sitting. The changes are refinements to the FLK wording — not a new format, question count, or marking approach — and our study notes and question bank were updated in July 2026 to reflect every one of them. Specification updates are always included in your existing purchase at no extra cost: there is no separate “26/27 edition” to buy. Candidates sitting in July 2026 or earlier were assessed on the previous specification.

The interactive platform (practice questions, mock exams, spaced-repetition flashcards and analytics) runs online in the browser, because the timing, adaptive practice and progress tracking need the live app. Our 13 subject study guides, however, are fully downloadable ebooks: every purchase includes both EPUB (Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo) and a print-quality PDF with no DRM, so you can download them as often as you like, read offline, print to a binder, and keep them forever. No. The website (a one-time lifetime or 1-month purchase) and the iOS app (a separate Apple App Store subscription) are independent products with separate billing and access — buying one does not unlock the other, and progress is not shared. If you bought lifetime here, use it by logging in at sqe1prep.co.uk in any browser, including on your phone. The app is subscribed to, and restored, inside the app itself.

Yes. Authentication is handled by Supabase (SOC 2 Type 2), passwords never touch our servers, every user-scoped table is protected by row-level security. Payment details are held by Dodo Payments — we only see the confirmation.
