The Solicitors Qualifying Examination Part 1 is the assessment all aspiring solicitors in England and Wales must pass to qualify. It tests Functioning Legal Knowledge across two papers (FLK1 and FLK2), each 170 single-best-answer questions from January 2027 (180 until July 2026), sat as two timed sessions of 85.

FLK1 covers Business Law & Practice, Dispute Resolution, Contract, Tort, Legal System, Constitutional / Administrative, and EU Law. FLK2 covers Property Practice, Wills and Administration of Estates, Solicitors Accounts, Land Law, Trusts, Criminal Law, and Criminal Practice. Both share cross-cutting ethics and professional conduct.

The SRA does not publish a fixed pass mark. Each sitting is standardised against a panel — historical data places it in the 55–60% range. Our internal analytics target a sustained 70%+ practice accuracy so you have headroom on the day.

Three attempts within six years from your first sitting. After that, you would need to re-register.

SQE1 runs twice a year, in January and July. The next sittings are January 2027 (FLK1 11–15 January, FLK2 18–22 January) and July 2027 (FLK1 12–16 July, FLK2 19–23 July). For January 2027 the seat reservation form closed on 24 September 2026. If you reserved a seat, the SRA emails you a request for payment between 10am on 19 October and 5pm on 18 November 2026. If you didn’t, online booking opens in your SQE candidate account from 10am on 19 November to 5pm on 23 November 2026, with a limited number of seats. Booking closes on 23 November 2026 and results are due on 9 March 2027. The SRA hasn’t published booking dates for July 2027 yet. Confirm everything at sqe.sra.org.uk.

Yes — already done. The SRA’s updated assessment specification takes effect on 1 September 2026 and first applies to the January 2027 SQE1 sitting. The changes are refinements to the FLK wording, and our study notes and question bank were updated in July 2026 to reflect every one of them. The SRA’s separate change to the format — 170 questions per paper from January 2027 — is already built into our mock exams. Specification updates are always included in your existing purchase at no extra cost: there is no separate “26/27 edition” to buy. Candidates sitting in July 2026 or earlier were assessed on the previous specification.

The SRA’s. Candidates are examined on the law as it stands four calendar months before the first assessment in a sitting — the “Law cut off date” rule in the SRA’s SQE1 assessment specification. For January 2027, with FLK1 opening on 11 January, that is 11 September 2026; for July 2027, with FLK1 opening on 12 July, it is 12 March 2027. Our notes and questions currently follow the January 2027 cut-off, including the specification changes that apply from 1 September 2026. We plan to bring them to the March 2027 position once the January sittings are over, at no extra cost, but we can’t give an exact date.

Yes. Every subject and topic is mapped to the SRA assessment specification. We update the question bank whenever the specification changes.

The website itself needs a connection, but there is a separate SQE1 Prep iOS app built for offline study on iPhone and iPad. It is an independent product with its own Apple App Store subscription — a website purchase does not unlock the app, and progress is not shared between them.

Partly — and the part you download, you keep for good. The interactive platform (practice questions, mock exams, spaced-repetition flashcards and analytics) runs online in the browser, because the timing, adaptive practice and progress tracking need the live app. Our 13 subject study guides, however, are fully downloadable ebooks: every purchase includes both a print-quality PDF and EPUB (Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo) with no DRM, so you can download them as often as you like, read offline, print to a binder, and keep them forever. Yes. It works in any browser on phone, tablet and desktop, on one account, so your progress syncs between them — flashcards on the commute, deep study at a desk. On an iPhone you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app: in Safari, tap Share (in the latest iOS it’s under the ••• next to the address bar), then Add to Home Screen. In Chrome on Android, open the ⋮ menu and choose Add to Home screen. You may be asked to sign in once.

Every question is a single best answer in the SRA format — a short scenario, a one-line question and five options — and we calibrate the bank against the SRA’s published sample questions, from scenario length to the kinds of wrong answer that tempt candidates. Topics are mapped to the SRA assessment specification for FLK1 and FLK2, and every change in the specification that applies from January 2027 was checked against our questions and notes in July 2026. For accuracy we review the bank subject by subject: each answer is re-worked from the underlying rule rather than taken on trust, anything that turns on a specific provision is checked against the statute, court rule or SRA rule itself, and questions are updated when the law changes. Every full mock is a fresh random draw from the whole bank, with subjects grouped into sessions as the SRA groups them. No question bank is ever perfect, so if you think an answer is wrong, please tell us using the Report an error link under the question’s explanation.

No. When the SRA revises the assessment specification — as it did for September 2026 — we update the platform for everyone, at no extra cost. There is no new edition to buy and the price of the plans does not change because of a specification update. One purchase covers the exam as it will actually be examined, including the January 2027 sitting onwards.

No, and you do not need one. Every plan covers all 13 subjects, and everything inside filters by paper: study notes, topic quizzes and subject tests for just that paper, flashcard decks by subject, and a full-length timed mock for either paper on its own. If you are resitting one paper, use its filters and ignore the rest; the price is the same either way.

No. The website (a one-time lifetime or 1-month purchase) and the iOS app (a separate Apple App Store subscription) are independent products with separate billing and access — buying one does not unlock the other, and progress is not shared. If you bought lifetime here, use it by logging in at sqe1prep.co.uk in any browser, including on your phone. The app is subscribed to, and restored, inside the app itself.

Yes. Authentication is handled by Supabase (SOC 2 Type 2), passwords never touch our servers, every user-scoped table is protected by row-level security. Payment details are held by Dodo Payments — we only see the confirmation.
