Plea before venue is the procedure under s.9A Magistrates' Courts Act 1980 used for either-way offences where the defendant is asked to indicate their plea at the magistrates' court before the court decides where the case should be tried. It was introduced by the Criminal Justice Act 2003 to save time and court resources.
